Eugene's Looking Glass Evaluation and Treatment Center (ETC) was a specialized agency serving girls ages 11-17 who had history of having had troubled experiences, including abuse, delinquency, mental health issues, and familial difficulties. At the time, due to budget and staff cuts, the ETC was struggling to maintain its program.
Soroptimist International of Eugene made a commitment to help the ETC program stay afloat. This is a typical example of how we will help the community by supporting an existing program that has service goals similar to our own.
Some of the ways the club helped LookingGlass ETC were:
- Wrote and received a $10,000 grant for continuation of the program.
- Purchased and donated an institutional sanitizer and 15 institutional quality mattresses.
- Purchased an industrial washer and dryer.
- Purchased a central copier/printer.
Over a period of two years, Soroptimist members also provided monthly service support, including painting bedrooms, supplying additional bedding, and arranging haircuts for girls at local salons. They also furnished "reward" items for staff use in the treatment program, hosted a Valentines party, and supplied tickets to community events.
